UCHSG is short for "Unst Community Health Support Group ".  The UCHSG is made up of patients and staff from the health centre and care centres in Unst.

Most health centres in the UK aim to have their own community group. A community group is all about taking an active interest in the health centre and the services which are provided to its community. Community groups make an important contribution to the well-being of their communities. Activities can include health promotion, information provision, service delivery, fundraising and strategic input to the practice.

NHS Boards are required to involve people in designing, developing and delivering the health and social care services they provide for them. If you want to find out a bit more about the government decision to you can link into:

UCHSG has gone one better than being just a Health Centre group – in keeping with Scottish policy, it covers both health and social care together.
